Apr 06, 2012 Download the Vine Server installer to your Mac, open it, and copy the program to your hard drive. Run the Vine server. This will set up a VNC server accessible through port 5900. At this point, you could use VNC Viewer to connect to your Mac remotely. However, this would be an unencrypted connection.
Vine VNC server now also works with high resolution (retina) displays (thanks to Tom Sealy who wrote the new code). Building Vine VNC server requires Xcode to build a distributable packet from sources.
After setting this up, you can now remotely control your Mac with any free VNC viewer (e.g. Chicken of the VNC), running on Mac OS X or any other OS.Of course, you can't use all the other cool Apple Remote Desktop control features on the above screen, but being able to use a free VNC server is a nice touch! OSxVNC (or Vine Server) is freeware server for Mac OS X. Using the above software installed on Mac and Windows, you can use your MacBook to control your Windows PC (and vice versa). In your case, all you would need to do is install RealVNC on your Windows PC and Chicken of the VNC on your MacBook to control your Windows PC. Wine allows OS X users to run Windows applications. Note: this listing is for the official release of Wine, which only provides source code. If you want a version of Wine that is packaged specifically for OS X, then use Winebottler, available here.
